Ben Spitzer & Garrett Thomas

 

Ben Spitzer grew up in the cattle business and his family involvement goes back several generations and has included both commercial cattle and registered cattle of several breeds.

Spitzer attended Oklahoma State University (OSU) and majored in Animal Science with an animal production emphasis. Upon graduation from OSU, He decided to continue his formal education at Colorado State University (CSU) and enrolled in the Integrated Resource Management Master’s Degree program in 2004.

Upon graduating from CSU, he accepted the position of Communications/Member Services Director with the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) in Denton, TX

Ben served as General Manager for Salacoa Valley Farms, Fairmount, GA beginning in July of 2007. He was responsible for management and marketing the large seedstock genetics business to commercial cow-calf producers across the southeast United States.

In June of 2010, accepted the position of Marketing Programs Director at the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA).  In this position he oversaw IBBA’s Commercial Marketing Programs as well as advertising and promotion of the Brangus breed. 

Recently, he founded Spitzer Agribusiness LLC and works with several ranches and other industry partners with marketing and management consulting projects.

Ben was a founding member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Young Producers Council (YPC) and served as the YPC delegate to the NCBA Membership Committee.  He served as Chair of YPC in 2010 and in 2011 served in an advisory role to YPC as Immediate Past Chair. He attended the NCBA Young Cattlemen’s Conference in the summer of 2012 and received the Excellence in Breed Affiliate Communications award from NCBA in February of 2013. He is also a member of the innagural class of The Excellence in Ag Leadership Program through the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Mangement, Kingsville, Texas.

 

 

Garrett Thomas grew up on a commercial cow/calf and seedstock Brangus operation is southeast Texas. He attended Texas A&M University where he earned his bachelors degree, while being a member of the 2006 Livestock Judging Team. Upon graduation he took a job as the General Manager of Doguet’s Diamond D Ranch, a large registered Brangus operation in Poteet, Texas. After nearly three years in south Texas, Garrett returned to Texas A&M to pursue his masters degree in Animal Breeding and Genetics. Upon completion of his class work, he accepted a position as a lecturer at Texas State University. While pursuing his masters and working at Texas State University, Garrett started his own sales management company that focused primarily on marketing bos indicus breeds in the southeastern part of the United States.

Prior to joining the Allied Genetic Resources team, Garrett most recently served as the Director of Member Relations and International Promotion for the International Brangus Breeders Association. During his time at IBBA he spent the majority of his time working one-on-one with the Brangus membership promoting sales, field days and major industry events. In addition he has had the opportunity to travel to South and Central America several times in the past year to help add greater perspective on global agriculture.
